Residents of Sandyhill benefit from an active community association which hosts yearly events including the Winter Carnival and Craft Fair, Fall BBQ, Halloween Haunted House, Spring Fair, and others. There are two community gardens and numerous parks with sports fields, tennis and basketballs courts, playgrounds, wading pools, and a splash pad. The Rideau River borders the neighbourhood offering scenic pathways for walking and biking as well as ice skating during the winter.

Sandyhill is walking distance to the Byward Market which offers a plethora of dining shopping, and entertainment options. As Canada’s oldest running Farmer’s Market, residents will enjoy the variety of vendor stalls offering fresh produce, speciality shops for meats and cheeses, bakeries, and much more. Shopping at the Rideau Centre with over 170 stores ranges from high-end retailers to affordable mid-market stores.
Schools and Churches
There are many excellent schools in Sandyhill, the Viscount Alexander Public School being the most notable. For adults, the Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute and the University of Ottawa offer higher education courses and accreditation. Churches in Sandyhill include All Saints Anglican, Ottawa Church of Christ, St. Alban’s Anglican, Ottawa Mandarin Alliance Church, St. Clement Catholic, St. Paul’s Eastern United, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and the Hare Krishna Temple.
